it's the plastic internals and lack of tight tolerances on these, some are great, some are duds, I happened to get three. I'm realy happy with the build quality of the mini e. the 64mm burrs arent bad either.
also, i use grindz between real cleanings, theyre great I know.

I'm right there with you on the Preciso. Really enjoy it when it's working, but sucks when its not.
My story with mine, had it two years and on my second one. However, with the second I had to replace the adjustment ring because it wore out in about 6 months of use with about a pound of coffee per week. I am pretty sure thats probably what happened to my first one, but they just replaced it with a refurb. At this point in time I am hoping it will hold up until I have the funds to buy something else and avoiding light roasted espresso blends like the plauge because it will probably break the grinder.
BTW I have thought about the Mini-e, how does it compare in terms of taste?

I still havent dialed it in, burrs are still breaking in and I really under developed this last roast, so i dont want to consider this as it's potential. But it does quite well, even the under extracted, early blonding shots ive pulled with it seem to taste close to OK, not over powering body, no bitterness in the finish, I was worried about that going back to flat burrs, but at 64mm with low RPM, I dont think it's going to produce the same flavor my rocky did a few years back (the reason I switched to a conical burr).

I was on the phone with customer service for about 30 minutes trying to solve a problem I have with the burrs. He was great and helped, for now, but its only a matter of time before I have to do this yet again. 4th time I've had to call for support and on my second machine. Pulling off the case is annoying, time consuming and guarantees to scratch the thing to high heaven. There is no way around it. The design would be great if it wasn't all plastic.
Its crap. Don't buy it. If it's cheap then you are buying cheap. $300 sounds like a steal for a espresso quality grind. Its not, its a waste of money. Spend the required dollars for a proper espresso grinder and save yourself from torture and pain. There is no such thing as a steal in espresso.
