Hi All, I'm looking for a grinder to be dedicated to press pot and drip grinds. From my hours and hours of scouring this site and others (I've been off of work this week and I'm not exaggerating!) I've come down to these two grinders based on $$ and quality. I am thinking the Preciso micro adjustments are unnecessary and the simpler Virtuoso with the Preciso burrs would be great. It would be fun to compare the Preciso and the Mazzer mini on espresso, but I'm thinking the simpler Virtuouso would save me on the number of times I'm referring to Baratza site to adjust/replace something.
I would appreciate comments from the community so I can put this question to rest, and spend the rest of my time off learning to make better shots! Many Thanks, Mike

I was lucky to spot a quality control guy today that I met at a public cupping that he was working at Blue Bottle. I had found out there that he was looking to get a Preciso. His take was that the Virtuoso would be fine for these purposes, but the Preciso would be preferred for cupping. I hadn't really thought of the more geeky aspects of my grinder choice! So, Preciso it will be.

I do like my Preciso, but I can't see how it would be better than the Virtuoso 586 (with the same burr set) for cupping purposes. Did he give a reason? Anyway, enjoy!

He didn't say explicitly, but they have such an exacting culture (for example, if you order a single origin pour over drip they weigh the beans and perform the brewing on the scale to control the amount of water) that I assume he is thinking a half step or something might be useful for "dialing in" a cupping. Thinking about it, there is so little water and grounds involved in cupping, that perhaps that ratio is fixed and the grind is dialed in to find the flavor spot. I'll ask at the next cupping I attend and post on this thread. Mike.
