I posted about 2 months ago re my new mazzer mini manual. Here's my problem. I can't seem to get a ideal grind setting. Yesterday I started doing the following 1-weighed 18 and 20 gram shots 2- used a training tamper 3- no beans adjusted the grinder to where the burrs were touching backed off a bit and started. First few adjustments chocked the machine (lascala butterfly auto) 4- went slowly coarser until I found a happy (so so) spot 5-got up this morning put in some new campos beans and BANG nothing came out, adjusted the grind 3 f times still nothing. So for the sake of a stress attack I've walked away to seek your help. I am very frustrated here. 6-the factory setting is 5 or so notches away from where I am and is very coarse ANY IDEAS

Changes in humidity, aging of the beans, and different beans often require different setting of your grinder, sometimes even daily or even within a single day. That's perfectly normal. When you put in new beans, you have to dial in the grinder all over again.

Noel, first off, by tamping with a toy, you get inconsistency, which means your original settings may be off. Your grind should FEEL slightly finer than table sugar. I'm sure you know when there are beans in the hopper, NEVER adjust your grinder finer without running it, or beans can get caught between the burrs, etd. I'm wondering if this is your problem? I know you said you ORIGINALLY calibrated your sweet spot minus beans...good job...but have you since been adjusting WITH beans in the grinder? Did In understand you used a different bean/blend this last attempt?
Are you sure your espresso machine is producing proper pressure? Regrettably, seemingly overnight a machine's stat can go south. Or perhaps somehow the water line to the machine is clogged? Perhaps pull a "shot" with no beans and watch the water flow. Does it look as vigorous as normal?
