Hi!
First time posting in this community.
I'm about to upgrade my espresso machine and grinder but am undecided on the grinder.
I've decided to go with a Silvia machine and thought the natural match would be a Rocky but a few of the posts I've read are making me think the Preciso is a better choice. I hope to still be able to make some French press coffee, but espresso would be my primary delight.

I think the considered opinion will be that the Vario is better than both for espresso, and good for FP, if you can stretch to a refurb. Then the Rocky is better for longevity/robustness, and the Preciso is cheaper (particularly a refurb) and better for grind quality and much better for control (particularly for both FP and espresso in one unit). I think the recent updates to the Preciso have improved the robustness a bit though.
However, all of these are general purpose grinders - if you want a grinder purely for espresso (i.e. your current grinder is good for FP), then a dedicated espresso grinder might be a better bet alongside whatever you currently have.

Well my current grinder is a P.O.S with hardly any grind consistency and it creates such a mess I can't stand using it. It has to go. I would LOVE to get the vario but budget restrictions are holding me back for now. I really need to decide btw the Rocky and Preciso since seattle coffee gear has a bundle deal and the Preciso package is $140 cheaper as well, another reason why I'm strongly leaning towards that one now.

I agree- no on the Rocky. I've pulled some shots on a Silvia with the Preciso with great success. That's the way I'd go, especially considering the price difference. Good luck, and have fun!
