Becky, 2 things:
One, a great technique for preventing cross threading is to turn the upper in the opposite direction as you would to thread, and you'll feel the part lock in. Once it does, you can then proceed to tighten. This is the way Mazzer owners do it.
Also, if you're using oily beans, it is inevitable that some grind may stay lodged in the throat.

Becky, I have the same grinder (polished aluminum model) and yours sounds way too loud!  Also, the silver button should be lined up with the chute for approx. espresso grind.  Yours looks waaaaaaaaay off in the coarse range!

is it normal for grounds to get stuck in the chute? It's not getting blocked or anything, but it seems they do get stopped up there and I need to use my finger to get it out.

Yes. Normal. You can 'bump' the throat (it is spring loaded) to knock of most of the coffee.

to get an espresso-type grind, the metal button is not lined up with the chute like I've seen most people mention.

Does it pour properly with your machine? Agreed that the metal 'should' line up near the throat, but would be nice to know if it is making good pours in its current state.

Im gonna have respectfully disagree.  Even with the volume on the video turned up past normal range of "real life sounds", the grinder sounds nice and quiet.  All I hear is a couple little chirps..

The burrs could be just about touching, causing the slightly chirping sound.
-OR-
There could be some random, NORMAL, residual coffee grounds left on the burrs, causing the chirping.  I single dosed a Mazzer Major(ran without a hopper, added beans per-shot) for over 3 years, and would constantly hear what SOUNDED like the burrs touching, once all the coffee was ground through.  Its just residual coffee on the burr surfaces.  It will happen, come and go, unpredictably, and nothing to worry about.

As for the Silver button, the lock down the grind setting..

There is no right or wrong position for that to be in.  In fact, the nice thing about Compak grinders, is you can remove the adjustment collar from the burr carrier, and you can position it in any direction you like.  So may you want to have the little "handle" thing, off to the right, or pointing straight back..  No problem.

I would suggest orientating(really?) it in such a way that the "handle" is either at 9oclock, or 3oclock, when you are close to the right setting for your standard shot.  That way if your a righty or a lefty, its a perfect spot to make adjustments.  (though, compared to a Mazzer, the Compaks are so smooth to adjust, you really don't need any extra torque at all)

I was referring to the 'fluttering ' sound I could hear!  Mine is waaaaaaay quieter than hers . . . only the 'whirring' sound of the motor!  But again . . . YMMV.
