I have had a Macap MX for about 2 years. Light use mostly. I recently replaced the burrs and every once in a while the burrs cant catch the beans.  I have it set pretty fine and I recently roasted some Vienna roast coffee and the burrs ant catch any coffee.. I cleaned the grinder yesterday and it didn't help.. Any ideas?

Could cold burrs do this? Only happens in the early morning when a window next to the grinder is open.

awesome!  I was really baffled by your question.  It didn't seem to me like the cold should cause your grinder problem, but since I didn't know I didn't want to say anything...was hoping someone with lots more experience would provide the answer.

Well at first I dialed back to drip and noticed I was getting fine grounds for coffee.  Once I dialed it down a bit towards espresso I choked my Silvia.  That flicked on the light bulb. lol Now I know why people redial in each coffee.  I roasted some Brazil Yellow Bourbon to Vienna roast and smoked out my garage. :s

Emraguy it looks like your right.  The Macap MX isn't for single dosing.. I went through about 400g of Sumatra FC just in the hopper without problem.  I just finished modding to stepless so I had to remove all of the coffee and clean the burrs.  Once done I tried single dosing several times and got the problem again. I think it has to do with the coffee oils acomalizing on the burrs. Maybe the stale coffee left in between the burrs cleans them off when I purge during the next grind.

Just wasted 1/4 of coffee.  Can't get it to grind either way now..  Could this be damaged burrs? They are maybe only used for 30 pounds of coffee or less.

Any chance your stepless mod messed it up?

Nope. I double checked everything last night.  I have the problem when trying to grind around the same spot stepped or stepless. I am leaning towards it being a cold temp issue.  Last night after double checking everything I threw in some beans and it single dosed nice and fine. The kitchen was nice and warm.  I tried again this morning, kitchen was cooler and it clogged up again. It's is driving me crazy.. I'm seriously considering selling this grinder for cheap and moving to a conical doserless.

Here are the burrs.  I was able to choke out my Silvia right after completing the mod.

I've been talking to an HB member with the same grinder and says this looks like a problem with this particular grinder.  The Burrs eventually need to be weighed down when single dosing in order to push the beans into the burrs. I am gonna look for something tomorrow and make sure there isn't a problem with a full hopper.
