Subject: Help! Mythos Nuova Simonelli grinder spraying

Hi,

I am a coffee noob and was hoping someone on here could give me a potentially simple solution.  I work at a cafe that has a Mythos Nuova Simonelli automatic grinder and recently we have been having issues with the grinds spraying out!  I have a suspicion it is the "Dispersion Nut Flange" (the little plastic part that has teeth) and that it might need to be replaced, but before I ask my boss to buy a new part, I was hoping for some advice as to whether it is the problem or not.  Usually it can be easily fixed by reaching inside and pushing the excess grinds out from behind it, but for some reason it is not longer working on a regular basis.

Thank you so much in advance.

I don't remember seeing any forum members that use that machine, which may explain your lack of responses.  That doesn't mean there are no users, or no experienced hands with Nuova Simonelli repair around though.  Perhaps a silly question, but have you reached out to where you purchased it?

Ah!  I was curious as to why so many people had replies on their forum posts and mine was so lonely and quiet.  Thank you.

The grinder itself is pretty old so I am not sure where the owners purchased it.  Looking online, the style is still pretty current and is being sold today.  I will have to talk to my boss and see if she can give me more information and maybe I can find a solution that way.

Thanks again!

I would try reaching out to the manufacturer as well. It may be a simple fix that they could point you to an appropriate part.

Espresoparts.com also sells it on their website.  They've been helpful on the phone with me before and as the name suggests...they sell a lot of parts.  That also may be a good avenue to try.  Good luck!

This NS Mythos grinder comes in different versions.  The Basic, the Low RPM and the Plus - not sure which one you have.  They acquired the Low RPM version at my local shop a few months ago and the barista said he loved it.

Instead of telling your boss to buy a new part, how about just letting him know that coffee is being wasted or the shots are maybe not so good, since the grinder is spraying?  He may appreciate knowing he may be at risk of losing money or customer satisfaction.  Perhaps it just needs to be cleaned.
