Seriously, the desire to make latte art is consuming me.

I steam the milk, generally 2%. I pour the shot. When I combine the two I cannot make the froth separate from the espresso to make the design. Does anyone have some advice? I've noticed my pitcher is different from the ones I've seen here. Could that be a hinderance?

Yes it could.

Do you have any pictures, or better yet, any video clips of what you're doing?

I can totally relate!

You might try using whole milk, my favorite is the lactose-free kind.

Yes.  Don't get discouraged.  This takes ALOT of time and practice.  Don't expect it to happen overnight.
It's not difficult but it IS a delicate balance of variables

The best thing you can do is find someone who knows how to show you.
If you can't do that, find all the videos and articles you can online - especially about steaming the milk.
Most people don't know what microfoam really is, but when you get it right that makes pouring art much easier.
Check this vid out - it's one of my favorites  CLICK THIS
Notice how creamy-smooth the milk is?  He has NO visible bubbles.  The milk is really only slightly thickened.
Also notice how close the tip of the pitcher gets to the surface of he drink as he pours.....proximity is a key.  ;-)

Get a straight-sided pitcher. If you don't have one it is very difficult to make microfoam.....

I hope that helps!

That video is really well done.  The last moments of still before the soft focus fade really make me realize how lame my attempts at pouring a good milk drink are.  The cup is just about saying "in your face rookie suck'a".

When I was first learning how to pour shots I was over consuming and sinking quite a bit of espresso.  I just can't justify doing the same with milk.  Oh the waste, the bovine hardship, the food miles, the belly bloat.

Is there any way to use emoticons on this site?  Some times I think that my goofy assed attempts at humor are lost in the ether of these here tubes of modern communication...  ;~).  Oh wait is that a smilely? I just learn so much from this site!
