So this morning, my SO and I are having a friendly chat and the subject of latte art comes up. I say "I'm basically only working on my macchiato art skills right now... it's more of a challenge in the small cup" (like the snob that I am :)). She says... "oh... wouldn't it be cool to do latte art in a thimble!!!"
I say... hrm, I wonder if I can do that....
My thimbles: two caps from martini shakers. Shown with a traditional espresso cup and a traditional cappuccino cup. I guess it's not bad for a first attempt (seriously!): tried a heart, tried a rosetta. They look weak, but I'm basically dealing with pouring less than a half ounce of milk here! :) Also, not to make excuses, but by the time I was getting to the "rosetta" in the second thimble, I had no milk left in the steaming pitcher.
So, who's up for the challenge.... Rob? Bronwen? Find a thimble and get pourin!
Tomorrow, I swear, I'll have better examples! :) I'm determined. I even figured out a different way to handle the froth and pour to nail it. You guys watch!
Mark, who hopes he won't be eating his words tomorrow :)
Mark, I'm going to push this even farther...I'm a pathologist--I look in the microscope much of the day....I'm thinking maybe I could try some microscopic latte art...next maybe some nanolatte art. Meanwhile back to the "macro-art", the good old 13 oz lattes I love. It reminds me of Miller beer's ads a few years ago here in Milwaukee. They tried to counter the whole microbrewery thing with a macrobrewery add campaign. So, instead maybe I'll counter with some macro art...maybe some 40oz lattes. The truth is I just couldn't find any thimbles in the house tonight.
Well, I have a lot of experience with intelligentsia espresso cup latte art, and your's is about as good as it gets. The real limit is how many times on can squiggle; and three back and forths is about the limit on an intellegentsia 55mL cup. It may be that the thimbles will look best with a no squiggle, solid heart.
Of course, you could find a frothing mug with a thimble sized spout!

I mentioned to everybody at work today about your challenge and everyone thought I had gone off the deep end!! Nothing yet had even come close to what you got goin on. Amazing pics and the heart on the right is awsome!! I like the etching too. I had a decent rosetta in a standard coffee spoon but need a little more practice. Keep em comin Mark!!
