I got a freebie pitcher (to try it out to see if it can pour okay) from Aabree Coffee recently. This is not meant to diss Aabree; Dan wanted feedback too, and I sent it to him.

But I'm posting about it here too. Study the shape of this style of pitcher.

This pitcher is a deceptive one - it has a needle nose which makes you think it can pour the fine lines needed for intricate latte art. But the shape of the pitcher - straight side walls (instead of the more suitable wide bottom, narrow top) makes pouring latte art exceedingly difficult. Managing the "throw" of foam is almost impossible to time, and doing the fine middle line finish is also difficult.

The results u see below are my *best* attempt after literally going thru a gallon of milk trying to get something decent. A blob, and a failed rosetta.

Mark

Ha!

That looks almost exactly like the pitcher that I use!  The good news is that it's relatively flimsy material, so you can take a pair of pliers to it ... just like a soup can. Yes, I'm serious.  Yes, I'm on the lookout for a better pitcher.  I like the 350mL size, though.

Cheers,

Luca

Mark-

For all of us still struggling with art, how bout posting a picture of the pitcher you most favor for pouring your latte creations.....my pitcher looks something like this one you just posted.....maybe I can blame my brush and not the artist!  (but I'd suspect it's the artist)

Thanks,
Wes

ROFL!!!!

I have been admiring everyones latte art every morning I "give it a try" thus no success.

I have that exact same pitcher I use.

Funny, here all this time I could have blamed the pitcher!

Your wish is my command :)

Three pitchers pictured below. On the left is my fave macchiato pitcher - a 12oz jobbie, nice shape, handles well, note the starting position of the pouring spout (half way up). Note the taper shape too - back side (where the handle is) is almost straight, but the front side (spout side) is tapered inward. Very conducive to pouring good latte art.

One the right is my fave cappa pitcher, 24oz, similar shape to the 12oz, just bigger.

In the middle... the bad pitcher. Bad pitcher, bad. Note the starting point for the spout, almost near the bottom. Note the width bottom to top. Note the shape. All baaaaaaad.

Wow Mark!.....

Talk about your quick turnaround, THANKS!....now about sending me that Expobar to test for a couple of years!....no, huh?   Anyway, when I get home from work I'll hold my pitcher next to the pitcher picture you promptly personally posted and pretend I can professionally pour a perfect latte like the ones you proffer in your pretty posted pictures (using the previously purchased pitcher).   I’d imagine I’ll be unable to blame the pitcher.

Ya, slow day here at the mine.

Well, there's only one pitcher in this household, and that would be me, but...

Me too!

I have that exact same pitcher I use.

Yeah, I have a jug that looks exactly the same.

I'd have thought a coach would be an expert on pitchers? :-)

So that's the reason I've been struggling with latte art!! Actually I've suspected it for awhile now. I keep meaning to get the pliers out. Dangit. And here I thought I had done my research before buying that pitcher from Aabree.

Sigh!

Ok....I've got the needlenose pliers, visegrips and the ballpeen hammer.
The bench grinder is spinning.....I just am not quite sure how to modify this pitcher .....I'd be fine if it was a 350 chevy motor, but this little pitcher has me baffled....I've Googled "performance modifications for latte pitchers" and come up with zip.  So.....how bout a pitcher picture taken from top looking down into the thing (spout width).

I know I'm a PIA :(

Shoot!!!

I'm using the good one.

What excuse do I have now?  It can't be me :-)
