Hello...Im new to this forum and to the espresso world... I recently acquired a mini vivaldi and vario-w from CC and for the past week im having fun this is my very first espresso machine and grinder. Quick question about pitcher size. Im looking at the motta 12oz vs 16oz. What would be the size to get? I make 6 oz cap and 10 oz latte using the AFC classic shaped cups. Please let me know so i can put in my order. Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

Welcome! You can get by with just the 12 but I think you want them both. When making just one cap I will grab the small jug every time. When making one latte its sort of a jump ball because the small jug starts getting kind of full for a latte. I have been use the ACF cups for a year and love them.

Yes you can use the 16 for one cap. Its not like it's an absolute but a preference. I mean you don't break out giant pot to heat up a can of soup nor do you cook pasta in the smallest sauce pan, right? If the pitcher is to small for what your doing you don't have as much room to stretch, roll or spin it without making a mess. If its to large for the amount of milk it makes it trickier to use and you leave to much of your stuff inside the pan.

I have never tried one, but will likely eventually pick up one of these toroid pitchers click here. Get great reviews on this site and seems to do a great job. If I was in the market for a new pitcher this is the one I would get.

I have the small toroid, ok so i am a bit of a pitcher whore, it great for making micro foam but sort of crappy for pouring it. If your trying to do art with it search the forums for mods. The spout can be adjusted.

I had a toroid for a few months. I didn't like it. For one, as pointed out already, it's not too good for pouring art. Also, the frothing technique is very different from what I was used to with the Motta Europas (different location for the wand in the pitcher and different angle as well) I ended up giving it to a friend.
IMO, the toroid is a great starter pitcher for a newbie.

It's actually my pitcher of choice when a guest in our home asks for a "dry" cap . I can flip back to it from my motta with out a thought, knock out a half foam half steamed milk fits into my ACF cap cups no spoon action required. At least that is I use it. There is a pitcher in the Christmas gift idea article that looks interesting an reasonably priced.
