hi I upgraded from an Isomac Millenium to the Quickmill Vetrano years ago. I need to use the millenium lately, and I was reminded about this. It seems like the Millenium was easier to use to achieve pourable microfoam than the Vetrano. The steam arms are different. I just wonder if there is a better steam tip I can use on the Vetrano to get better microfoam for pouring latte art? I "get" the technic for steaming, been doing it for years. So there must be some nuance I am missing that promotes the difference as I noted above.

...had a similar experience when I got my Alex Duetto II. I was literally going insane wondering how the f#$k I got better foam from my Silvia v1 (with an articulatiing wand upgrade). Eventually, I read about another Duetto owner who pulled the plastic tube out of the steam wand, converting it to a "burn me", from a "no burn". He said his microfoam improved 100-fold instantly. well, that was enough for me, so I did it too and had a similar experience. Your Vetrano probably has a no burn wand (at least new ones from CCS do now). You might want to consider doing the same thing. It's really easy, take off the steam tip, grab the plastic tube with needle nose pliers and pull, then put the steam tip back on. If it doesn't come out easily, then take the whole wand of and try again. The only warning is...you'll need a rubber sleeve ($3.95 from espressoparts) or clip or something to grab hold of the wand afterwards so you can manipulate it. Someone here suggested Sugru once (I think it was GVDub), and I'm sure that would work great as well.

thanks that is an interesting idea. yes, the main difference is the burn vs no burn arm, which I agree could be the issues. I didn't know it could be unmodified. Alan

you're welcome. let us know how it goes. I think it took all of about 2 minutes to unscrew the steam tip, pull the tubing and screw the tip back on, on my Duetto. I used a couple layers of towel to manipulate the arm in the beginning, because I didn't even order the sleeve until after the fact.
