The La Pavonis are very sensitive to grind, and use a finer grind than a typical machine.   Don't even consider trying to get by with pre-ground coffee and a LP.

Mine is brass and wood, and I don't recommend that finish.  The brass develops spots, and the wooden handles crack.

That's good to know - I was wondering about the brass and the wood longevity. I've been slowly swaying to the chrome.
I've researched the Pavoni and remember multiple comments to it requiring a finer grind.

One point is that the Pavoni is less imposing than the square box form factor.

I didn't get the bid - it seems that everyone uses eBay sniper programs now and I got pipped by £5. I'll keep an eye out over the next month and if not I'll pop into CoffeeItalia in London and get myself a chrome Europiccola. In the mean time I'll read up more on other alternatives.
