ok guy. I just hadd myoring blow out again so i set out o find the cause of this froblem. The reason the oring comes off is because the piston housing is not wide enough to provide a good seet for the ring. the oring does not seal against the top of the chamber but against the side so what i did was made the outside of the chamber 1mm larger all the way around. now the piston housing fits snugly into place instead of loosly and the oring sits very nice. and there is no way that it can roll off.

How did you increase the size of the chamber?  I haven't had the ring bust yet, but a seal on the plastic resivoir chamber came loose and I have had a lot of leaking problems.  When I called the retailer they sent me an o-ring for when mine enventually gives out.  Its not exactly comforting that this is so common!

I actually found a paint can cap that was 54mm cut the center out of it at 51mm used a special type of plasic glue to fix it flush around the top of the piston chamber then smothed it down to 53mm for a snug fit, it works very good I am thinking a bout making a piston chamber from scratch, for the love of me I cant understand why gaggia did not do this from the factory.
Can you tell me where you got the seal from ? I need a few seals for my machine cause the previous owner left the machine in the garage in the middle of winter and the o rings etc are buggered
