Maybe a dumb question, but how do you jam the toothpicks in the holes? From the outside? or by taking the tip off, and plugging them from the inside? If the latter, I am having a hell of a time getting my tip off the new steam wand. I don't want to use a metal implement for fear of damaging the chrome. Any tips from someone who has got the tip off?

Is that an original Port-a-filter that is chopped? Looks great!

Hi Chopinhauer,

I just removed the tip from my 1987 Cremina that is fitted with a new style wand. On the end of it (where the four holes are situated) there is a slotted recess for a medium flat-bladed screwdriver to locate into. It came off easily and didn't leave a mark.

Hey thanks Paulo. It would have taken me ages to discover the slot in the tip. Not the deepest slot but still with the right screwdriver it unscrews.

In any case, I have decided not to block any of the holes because I am becoming better at steaming of small quantities (for piccolos) by the day. The real issue is the stiffness of the steam valve on the new machine and this should loosen up over time and create more variance.
