Alright fellow geeks
I heeded thou advice and bought myself a VWE (very wife-unfriendly) level grinder - its a Wega 64 max - aka Compak K6 off a local coffee shop that went under. I took this thing apart and cleaned all the gunk out of it. Then, I tried to dial it in by turning the grind selector all the way to ground zero and then back up a bit.
The grind quality is really nice and even, however, for some reason, the extractions are around 10s each and not yielding too much crema. Is it still not fine enough? So I was wondering what wisdom ya'll can share on said subject!
I was thinking maybe the grind needs to be finer, still. However, I have compared the size against the illy espresso and also some local coffee store-bought espresso grains and its pretty much dead on. In fact, the grinds coming out of this grinder are more even than theirs!!
So, any thoughts on how to get me some crema??
BTW, the burrs look to be in decent shape. The shop bought it refurbed from a local equipment supplier who replaced the burrs before they got it. They only used it for about 6 months...light use.
