I've just bought a EU 230V/1000W model La Pavoni Europiccola (very excited!) and need a transformer to use it in the US with 110V mains. I know that some outlets (ovens, dryers) here use 220V but I don't have that option.
I deliberately bought the 230V model as I'm only in the US for 2 years then moving back to Australia where it'll work straight away!
What have others done to solve this issue?
I believe I need a 1000W (or higher?) Step Up transformer, but would like clarification. High school physics was a while ago!

Yep, you need a 1000W step up transformer. I bought a 1500W one off of eBay for about $80 last year to use my Gaggia over here, it's about 12" by 7" by 5", and about 20lb. Helpfully, it'll work in either direction, with the flick of a switch, so it could later be used in Australia to power a 110V appliance.
Coincidentally, mine will be going spare later this week, when my US spec Bezzera BZ07 machine arrives, but I suspect that shipping costs from MA might make a second hand deal prohibitive.

I have a 5000w upconverter to use on 110v outlet. My espresso machine is a 2 group ES - Rated at 3000w. They say that you should double the watts to make sure it can handle it/ but 5000 was the biggest one I could find. It works for a while from a cold start - then trips the breaker about 30 minutes in... but it would be better if you use it on a 20 amp breaker instead of a 15 amp in the fuse box.
That is if you have a choice.
I talked to my electrician and he said that the wiring has to be able to handle the 20 amps- so he has to come over and check the wiring.

I ended up getting a 3000W model - yes, very heavy! Planning to get everything connected up tomorrow, do a clean and try my first Pavoni pull! Thanks for the advice everyone.
