Subject: Where to buy Lusso? (1st-line will not ship)

Hey there!

Hopefully this is the proper place for this post.

I'm interested in purchasing a Ponte Vecchio Lusso and having it shipped (I'm in Miami, Florida) but the only vendor that I personally know of is 1st-line, and they will not ship this particular machine.

Due to many issues of this machine being damaged in transit this machine must be picked up from our location in New Jersey.

Many people on different forums recommend this machine, but where can one purchase this to have it shipped?

Thanks!

Jim's probably got a good reason for not shipping. Your best bet is to find somebody passing through NJ on their way to Florida and see if they'll pick it up for you. Or find somebody local who'll ship it, taking the chance that the types of shipping damage that keep Jim from shipping them doesn't occur.

Or, fly into Philly, rent a car, drive to Freehold, pick it up yourself, and figure out how to bring it back with you on the plane. Look at the different sizes of roto-molded flight cases somebody like SKB makes and see if one is close enough in dimension that you could unscrew the lever and pack it in a ATA-approved case.

Try calling  The Good Coffee Company in Seattle.  They don't have a website, as they are delightfully old-school.  Phone:  206-622-5602

Or call Vaneli's:  http://www.vanelis.com/Home_Espresso_Machines.cfm  They have a TWO group Lusso as well as on one group and an Export.  I ordered one from them but bought locally when I found the Lusso at the Good Coffee Company.

Good luck.  Please post about your success.

Thanks for all of the great advice everyone! It's a shame UPS and FEDEX are not reliable enough to transport these machines....

We are sorry about this. Unfortunately, UPS and FedEx damaged too many of these Lusso units and would not pay for them either. no matter how much we cushioned the machine in its own box and placed a double outer box, the machine would still arrive with damage. This problem does NOT occur with the Export model.

The main reason was that inertial forces were forcing the Lusso boiler to shift when the outer box was dropped or went down a slide or conveyor with the shipping companies.

When I visited Ponte Vecchio in Oct of 2011, I brought it to their attention that they needed to install support brackets (more than one) to hold the boiler in place. It fell on deaf ears.

I did have a customer who I believe used uship.com. He bidded out a pickup at our location and had the machine delivered to him in TX. The guy who picked it up was ina pickup truck driving out that way. He collected a bunch of things here in NJ and delivered them to TX because he was visiting his father. He used the money to pay for gas, but it did cost him his time to deliver. Keep in mind that he did pay by US postal money order. We would not take a credit card payment because we did not want to have a credit card dispute that he did not receive the goods when it was the customer who arranged the pickup and shipping with a third party. In other words, we had no control over this factor. The nice part is that the package was in a personal vehicle and hand delivered.

Sincerely,
