After approx 3 1/2 weeks of use the Lello is proving to be a dud with unresolvable issues.  I am sending it back for a refund.  Although I did manage to get the most out of it as possible, it didn't take long for it to prove itself as a cheap POS.  As such I am selling the modded and factory perfect Pavoni baskets I purchased for this on this forum and am in the market for a much better machine--please feel free to PM me if you have a great deal, thanks.

Still looking for a home for those replacement baskets?

*EDIT*

Never mind, I found an MP 68 basket on espresso parts dot com. . .

The MP 68 basket arrived, and fits perfectly into the Ariete's PF handle. It does have a rounded lip along the edge of the basket, but I was able to flatten in out enough for it to lock securely into the group head, and I ran a few shots through it, leaving out the black plastic handle insert, pictured above on this thread. It works. The MP 68 is deeper than the stock basket that came with the Ariete, so it holds more coffee, and after a pretty firm tamping, the machine produced a single shot's worth after about 25 seconds, just as the stream of coffee coming out started turning from dark brown to a lighter shade. I tried repeating it, with a little more coffee in the basket, and the shot came out a little bitter. Both times, the shots had a thick layer of crema-looking stuff which gradually settled, like a Guinness draft, to a dark caramel color on top. This is without any pressurization at all: no PPF basket, no plastic insert thing.

I'm going to keep at it. . . but for whoever might be interested, the MP 68 non-pressurized basket works with the Ariete's PF handle.

I have a delonghi ec270 on order.  Kind of regretting buying a pressurized pf now.  Anyone have this machine and know if it's easily modifiable?   I'm wonder if all lower end consumer Delonghi pf's are the same and I'll have the same issues and the poster above.   Any advice is helpful, thanks.

I have an EC155 and judging by the pic of the EC270 it has a similar PPF.  I modified mine to be non-pressurized.  I used this as a guide.  It might be of help to you.

Next trick might be to take a hole saw and dremel to it to make it naked.

The same guy is also doing a PID build based on the Arduino processor.  Be interesting to see if he updates his progress.

I too have an EC155 and my coworker buddies and I removed the plastic bottom portion of the portafilter and cut off the screw post into which the black bottom portion was screwed.

If you take a close look at the portafilter in this youtube video from a guy in Hong Kong you can see that he has modified his portafilter in the way that I described.

I have a large basket that I think is in the la pavoni style mentioned above by someone in this thread and thus far I'm not super happy with it.

I've ordered one of these: click here   though not from that particular site,   because it looks like the one in the video and I believe it is the correct diameter.  When I receive it I will let you know what it is like compared to the flat basket la pavoni that I have now.  The pavoni basket I have now isn't horrible but I haven't been using the best beans or grounds with it but I have a feeling that this Krups basket will be better.

Let me know how you make out with the basket.  I'm eager to replace mine.  I'm getting tired of the mesh screen falling out every time I knock the grounds out of it.  I'd also like to get busy making the PF naked.

After a lot of experimenting with a non-pressurized basket, I've gone back to using the pressurized one, because the results I was getting were so wildly inconsistent. The pressurized basket at least produces a predictable result each time, and I'm content for the time being with what I'm able to do with it. I still mess with the NPPF here and there, and once in a while I somehow end up with something pretty good, but at the end of the day I think my machine works better when it's used the way it was designed to be.

Here is my naked/non-pressurized PF:

That uses DeLonghi 607706 two cup basket, I believe meant for a BAR machine. I cut off the plastic bottom part. The filter fits firmly with a little sanding (takes some effort to remove it).

Here is a picture of the shot (about 1.5 oz from ~2 fl oz of grounds):

This is a Krups basket that also fits but uses less grounds, I haven't tried it yet though:

That is product Krups MS-090716, used in this video:

Hope this helps!

I watched that video - the shot took almost a minute and a half to pull...

I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

Well, yes-they did pull the shot for quite some time, and also pulled it a tad lungo, The point is the portafilter basket, not the barista :)
(By the way, I didn't make the video)
