The Rancilio OEM portafilter is, IMO, one of the very best you can buy.... And the machine work on the one from Chris Coffee is by Lino Verna - a true craftsman.
I have one, it's been one of my favorites for years.

Cool Jon!
It's great to know that it works great!
I'm seriously going to get this now, as the stock double basket is not enough for making Ristrettos with more volume. I can't wait to make Ristrettos with more volume, but from what I understand they are not as easy as a double. I will find out.

Finally got my naked PF from Chris Coffee.
I'm just in awe right now. The shots I'm pulling with my new naked PF is truly amazing. The shots are meeting my expectations. The flow is smooth and based on what is being monitored from the PF, there doesn't seem to be any channeling or uneven pours.
Without changing my current variables. The variables are the current grind setting, brew temp, beans, and double basket filter. The only variable value that was changed is the PF is now a naked PF.
Instantly noticed the rich crema and longer pull. On the stock PF, the flow was not as rich and blonded earlier.
The beans, I'm using is Dancing Goats blend Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters and is about 12 days old. My target is making a Ristretto style shot.
What do you think?
Tomorrow, I will try pulling a Triple Ristretto.
Note: Forgive the video, it's not high def. Youtube video

I have a really stupid question about a triple basket. I made my stock PF from Rancilio a bottomless one by cutting it out. I do not have a triple basket yet-- and that is where I am ignorant.
On my beans, the recommended grind is 20 grams. I have not weighed it but what I have read is that is a triple basket amount. Here is my question... or questions.
With the triple are you guys still pulling 2.5-3 oz shots? Are you still tamping at +- 40 lbs?
Is the purpose of the triple to not have blonding as fast? Why exactly are they used?

No and No. I pull 1.75-2.25 oz for double and triple baskets. I tend to tamp at 20-30 pounds these days, and use grind adjustments to control flow and flavor profile.

It's to use more grounds for a shot. You can translate this into a bit more volume or into a more restricted (ristretto) shot. Here's a tired old video that shows why I like the triple basket (ristretto)....CLICK here
Most of the time I use the "Synesso-type" 18g basket, but less often I use a 21g (triple) or 16g (double)

Here is a shot of my more successful Triple shot attempts. So far, I've only done two total. This one turned-out fairly good. Generated about ~2 Oz of Espresso. The flow came out fairly even with some PF spots in the basket that initially that didn't allow the liquid to exit. That immediately changed later.
I can see why they refer to these shots as Espressoporn. They are truly amazing to watch, very colorful with tons of crema, but thick and gobbly crema not seen before from my standard PF. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any stills underneath the extraction, but have the video which I can provide next time.
