Is there a unit that would be better at being moved to the next machine when the time comes? That machine would be a DB or HX machine. That however is a good ways off if even in the forseeable future at all.
Installing a PID in a HX machine is like training wheels on a living room chair. It has a function, but no one has quite figured out the value. At least this is true with a properly designed ((quality) HX machine. There are already DB machines with PIDs installed from the factory, and more will be available when you are ready.
I can also vouch for Jim's kit. Commercial quality wiring and crimped connectors, wires cut to length, etc. I have a review of his kit and the installation on a Silvia on my website. And definitely a quality guy to deal with. No experience with Auber, and so nothing bad to say about them. I suggest you contact each directly and decide for yourself. Plenty of positive reviews of both that I think you can't go wrong either way.

bamaster I do not remember what the PID settings Auber starts with but you may want to adjust them after you get some experience with the kit. This is one location that helped me http://www.vogie.com/coffee/20050427T174417-pxr.html I did not end up with these exact numbers but a program that worked similarity. The idea is to get the boiler to recover quickly without over shooting the desired temp. If you are making only one cup at a time the PID program whether custom or auto tune really makes no difference. But, two cups without a well tuned PID will give you problems.
