So, I've been enjoying my PID'd Silvia I purchased from the b&s section a few months ago, but found myself irritated by how often I needed to empty the drip tray (and spill it all over the floor, most often), so I decided to see what I could come up with to rig up a drain of sorts without shelling out a lot of cash.
I headed to a local hardware store and picked up a 1/2 inch PVC 90° elbow, 4 feet of vinyl tubing (I ended up only using 3 feet) that fit into the elbow nicely, and a foil pan (which came in a two-pack)
After finding out that the drip tray is a (gasp!) $70 part, I was not keen on taking a drill to it in case I did something wrong. Instead, I fashioned a foil drip tray out of one of the pans I bought:
I couldn't get a good picture of it, but I taped a seal around the bottom of the joint and made a hammock of sorts for the tubing so that it wouldn't fall apart. A bit of hot glue on the PVC inside the tray would help also. I then ran the tube down to a milk jug for draining.
I also put (taped :D ) some longer plastic legs on that I found in my basement to provide room for the tubing. It's nice when steaming milk as well.

Hi Nick,
You have inspired me to do something similar to my Silvia. I can't count the times I have ad it overflow. I have an older Silvia. My drip tray is slightly different from yours. The sides are straight with no curves at the corners and there is no logo.

Nice DIY and thinking outside the box. My work Silvia only gets a few shots a day if that so the drip tray is able to keep up, I also flush etc into an old coffee cup so that water does not go into the tray either and only DRIPS go into the tray LOL!
I hate, well that is a strong word, strongly dislike non plumb in machines which is why I have several of them at home but unfortunatly at work that isn't an option even with a pump etc. so I am stuck there.
