Subject: I did it!!! - Delonghi EC155 mod with Rancilio Silvia v.1/2 steam wand

Hi, everone:

Forgiving my poor English and this is my first post ever on Coffeegeek.

This is for my office espresso machine and I’ve been use Gaggia Latte art wand on it but still preferred the stainless wand. ( As you can see I already mod my Giggia Classic at home with Rancilio Silvia steam wand and I love it!! )

Since I never find any EC155 wand mod other than H.K. made nozzle/acorn nut fit. ( Too bad I never be able get it in US. )
So here I am to share my mod result for Delonghi EC155 with Rancilio Silvia v.1/2 steam wand for better milk frothing.

Basically the mod is quit straight forward. I think the most difficult part is get the Rancilio wand goes back into the pipe joint. ( a little bit hand soap will make this much easier. )

After the mod I realized the new wand swing by itself so it will not stay at the position I want it to be.

The fix? I just use one drop of crazy glue to make sure the new wand and joint stick together.

So far I like the result and will see if this mod last.

Happy brewing…..

Calvin

I just made the same mod to my EC155 and it work great! No need to spend $500-$1000 for the same results. :)

so the Silvia v3 wand doesn't fit? (just curious why you'd use the v1/2 wand if it does)

Only V.1/2 will fit. V3 is a ball joint type wand not suitable in this case.

Correct the Sylvia V3 uses a commercial ball joint connection steam wand.

With the V1/2 wand you just need to take the casing off the top and bottom of the EC155. Undo the 4 hex screws holding in the grouphead to get to the steam wand. Pop it out and remove the black plastic piece holding the OEM Delonghi wand in place. Take the tip and burn proof rubber off the V1/2 wand to put on the black plastic piece and re assemble the machine. As for the hose remove the clamps to detach and re attach the steam wands. They are both 6mm. Also go to a local hardware store and buy 5/18" hose clamps. for the steam tube.

I'm attempting to do this mod as well. Out of curiosity how did you get the top off the machine around the steam valve? I'm not seeing how to do this and it appears to be the one impeding factor.

Edited to add: Never mind on this. I found this post which discusses taking apart the machine.

This is really awesome, thank you for sharing that information! Any ideas if this mod will work on the DeLonghi BAR32 as well?

I have had this mod for 1 year now and it's still holding strong.  I have even done 2 teardowns.  If anyone is experiencing a loose steam wand swiveling just line the plastic and the wand inside the plastic piece with Teflon tape holding the wand in place.

Hi,

Did you need to purchase two additional o-rings other than the steam valve? I am thinking of doing this mod for my delonghi ec 155 as well and I would like to know all the parts (orings, telfon tape etc) which are needed. Appreciate your help.
