Hey all,  hoping someone can help with this. I have searched a bit to see if I can find the solution, but nothing yet.  I have a Rancilio Silvia, about 8 years old.  It's been wonderful, and has just now developed this problem.  It started with a strange noise on pulling shots,  kind of a ticking sound.  Next, it would only pull water through group when first turned on and still cold.  Soon as it would heat up,  no water would come through.  Now,  nothing comes through group.  Pump is working, water through steam wand is fine, and heater is fine.  I did pull the solenoid elec and valve off to inspect, but nothing seemed out of ordinary.  I will soak and clean to see if that helps.  It has the lucifer solenoid.  Any thoughts?  Thanks!

Silly question but you talk about solenoid
what about the showerscreen?

when you remove the solenoid was water coming out the grouphead/solenoid hole?
is so then the problem is in the solenoid or after (passage to showerscreen)
or electrical if the coil is not opening when the brew button is depressed

so the noise can be the coil but most likely the plunger inside

Showerscreen is fine....maybe the coil isn't opening....I didn't try to pass anything through while it was disassembled....I can give that a shot later today. Thanks!

Okay,  so now with the solenoid assembly elec and valve off,  water comes through fine.  So, how would I know if I need to replace the Lucifer elec solenoid,  or the valve? Likely electric right?

update....thought a deeper cleaning might help...and it did work for a few moments,  then back to click, click, click....and no more pull through group head.  So....do I need to replace the lucifer solenoid unit maybe?

last update....fixed!  Went ahead and put in a new solenoid valve/coil full assembly and all is well!  Not bad for 8 years of great daily service from this machine.
