Looks like the Mini prices are going up. WLL and Aabree both raised prices to $489. Does't look like the other retailers have followed suit...not yet anyways...

I'm glad I purchased mine (for $399) from Chris a few days ago! He said that he had to bump his price to $439 on January 3 because of the weak dollar against the Euro. 1st in Line still has it for $395, and they have the Mini-E for $599. WLL has the Mini-E for $749!!??!!
Interestingly enough, WLL has not increased the price of any of their other Italian grinders (Rocky has been the same price for 10 months, for example). I wonder why?? If I had the $$, I would have jumped on the Mini-E for $599, but $749 is getting into the stratosphere for a grinder. I'll keep the doser and save $350 any day!
Ok... so with the price going up... I'll go ahead and ask this question (that search hasn't really helped with anyway... ;) ) about the...
La Cimbali Jr. grinder?
I know the Mazzer (and now the Macap too) have been the popular ones on the boards. Read the review that Dan did with the Mazzer, Macap, and Cimbali...
That nice worm gear adjustment fulfills the uber-geek consistancy I love so much... sooOOooo... here's the question.
If the prices are the same, would you choose the Cimbali over the Mazzer?
(Larger diameter burrs, more commercially oriented, etc...)
Was price a determining factor? And now that the Mazzer is basically $500 also...
Just curious as to why the Cimbali hasn't been mentioned/used more around here... that's all!
Rancilio prices will go up around the end of February beginning of March. The reason prices on Rockys and Silvias have not gone up yet is because distributors like myself do not direct import from Rancilio not even the commercial machines. Rancilio has an office here in the States, Rancilio USA, we order from there and get shipped from there. Our prices are quoted in US dollars and it is just like buying from Bunn Corp. when they announce a price increase we get it in writing and a new price list. The differences is when I buy from Mazzer, La Spaziale, MACAP, Quick Mill, Elektra, Cimbali, etc. my price is in Euros when it comes time to pay I have to wire over the money in US dollar equivalent at that time. There are other factors driving prices up as well besides the weak dollar. Raw material costs have gone up drastically like stainless steel and copper. Additionally the cost of transportation has taken a sharp rise. The cost to ship a 20 foot container here via sea just took a $500.00 price increase as of the 1st of the year. I have been saying this for the last few of months, if you are looking to purchase espresso equipment don't wait around looking for deals because prices are only going up and it will take more than a slight strengthening of the US dollar to bring them back down.

I must say I am fairly happy that my confirmation e-mail from Sweet Maria's arrived this afternoon informing me that my push button Mazzer is on its way. Only US$390.
For contrast, the best on-line Canadian price (well, the only one I could find) was CAN$895 for a Mini. That would be US$730!!
We would agree with your assessment. As current inventory levels of European products diminish, replacement inventory costs will increase. In addition, there are usually increases by the major carriers ( i.e. UPS) in February. Thus driving selling prices higher.
