i have the starbucks barista for a couple months and i'm assuming it's time to descale it.  i make one maybe 2 lattes a day.  i called starbucks and they said to use realemon mixed with water in the tank.  run it with the grouphead off until it comes through, let it cool off for half an hour and then back and fourth run the steam and brew.   does that sound right?  is there another way i can do this??

you're on the right track. i used one of these machines for a few years and did the descaling process every 6 months or so. the process they described to you sounds similar to what i remember. i used a mixture of lemon juice and water, and seem to recall letting the machine sit for several hours, even overnight, before running it on through. when you're all done you'll want to run a tank or 2 of fresh water through, then pull a shot and discard it.  you should be set.

hope this helps...
