I have a very similar machine, also with the spring grouphead. Mine doesn't have the eagle or direct plumbing, both otherwise looks very similar. The grouphead is very small, the basket is 45 mm. I haven't been able to get good shots with it, always seemed to overheat or burn the coffee. Advice from those experienced most appreciated. I think it needs new piston gaskets as well, but can't get any at reasonable prices in Europe - again, advice would be most appreciated.
What is the tape mod?

I just got a Rivera. Is the top end of the sight glass supposed to be loose? Water flows out here if I turn the machine upside down. I assume it should be sealed here, maybe an o ring that long since diasappeared? How do you install a new sightglass?

Ya, the sight glass shouldn't be loose. You can replace the gasket by taking the pressure gauge off the top. The sight glass slides out the top then. The glass itself should still be fine. My guess is a lot of other gaskets are toast too. Cara is the place to get replacements.
