Just like the title says, just wondering whether the ppl here still use their single basket. As for me, i just simply find it difficult to dose a single basket. and when i do use it, i seem to need to adjust my grinder to a finer setting as well. its just too much trouble IMO.
So what do i do? i use the double basket even for my singles. thats 30ml in around 25seconds but using a double dose. does anyone else do something similar?

Perhaps is my Italian blood but I always use the single basket, I might make myself 2 espresso in 10 minutes , but I like to make mine singles, one think for sure I don't use 6-7gr of coffee, my singles are about 11gr in the basket.

we do just about the same thing. we dose 18g into a triple for "doubles" and 14g in a double for "singles". actually, our single basket was being used as a doorstop for a while.

I have been doing single for awhile now, and up dosing quite often especially since last week or two. Before I thought the only way to avoid channeling is to under dose, and it turned out that I was wrong. The only way to avoid channeling is to make sure you have the even distribution, and to preserve the distribution. The dosage will determine the taste profile, so experiment a bit to see what you like.

Once I discovered ristretto's, the single basket became redundant. I always had channelling problems with the singles. Definitely bad technique on my part. But the quick and easy fix was to use doubles. Then tasting a ristretto shot that had the consistency of cream, with an explosion of chocolate and caramel. A taste so good that it demanded to be consumed straigh up, rather than suffer the ignomany of being made into a cappuccino... Once I crossed that threshold, there was no turning back.
That's my sad story of why the single basket got forgotten.

Yup. Actually, I switch back and forth between the single and double baskets a lot. It is easier to produce a smoother, tastier shot with the double basket, even if you are pulling normal doubles and not ristrettos (I'm the newest of the newbies, and even I can taste the difference). But I do like trying my hand with the single basket. Lots of fun finding the limits!

If I want a single, I use the double basket and tip one shot down the sink. By the time I get the grind right for the single basket, I've wasted way more than 7- 8 grams of coffee anyway.
