Subject: Saico Incanto Sirius or Jura Capresso?

I just bought a new Saeco Incanto Sirius from Willams Somona a few days ago and noticed everytime the machine powers up, rinses or makes a coffee the drip tray has water coming from inside the maching - not from the heads? Is this normal for super autos?

I was turning the machine off at night instead of using power saver. I called Saeco and they suggested leaving it on. I tried that, but it didn't make a difference.

I just lugged the thing back to WS and exchanged it for a new one. When I got home, I put the 2nd machine through it's start cycle and the drip tray was full of water again?

I read on the internet where a dealer in Canada quit carrying this model due to a 50% return rate for this problem. I love the machine cosmetically since it's the only super auto I've seen with stainless steel front, sides, top, etc. I was looking at the Jura Capresso F9 and the S9, but they just felt cheap with all the plastic?

Is anybody else having this problem with this Saeco model or any other autos? I guess I might have to get a Jura Capresso, but I don't like the plastic casing and the guy from WS who helped me carry out the replacement machine to my car said he's seen a lot of returns on Jura Capressos too? Any suggestions?

Hi Slugline
If you are only getting water in the drip tray, this is normal.   There is a pressure relief system in all super autos that release water into the drip tray.   My suggestion is to turn off the rinse cycle.  It's not needed. Besides that it waste time from making coffee.  If you want to rinse the brew group, just push the pre-ground button and don't add any coffee.  It does the same thing.  We disable the rinse cycle on the machines that come into our shop because it waste water.  The Incanto Sirius is a great machine.

Thanks for the input, Jerry. The machine also leaves water in the drip tray when you brew coffee. Is this normal  too?

Do Jura Capressos do the same?

From what I've been able to gather though, the Jura S9 or F9 is a MUCH better machine.

I agree that it would be nice when dropping 2K on something for it to be made out of metal, rather than all plastic.  I've actually gotten very nice espresso (not great, but certainly drinkable) out of the Jura machines.  As far as I know, all the saeco machines have a problem storing up to 3 shots worth of coffee in the distance from the grinder, to the actual head.  The whole idea of a super auto is the freshness factor, so having this much coffee going stale is a real problem, unless this grind path was re-designed in the incanto Sirius

Hi everyone
All grinders have residual grounds in the machine after grinding.  Even the commercial grinders like the super Jolly has at least 1 1/2 shot's in the chamber.  Jura are good machines but you don't want to pay to get them fixed when they break.  The wait is up to 2 months and can be very expensive.  The Incanto is a very flexible machine, and can be dialed in to make a very good espresso.  Maybe not the god shot you all dream of making, but how many god shots do you make a day?  The Incanto and Jura can make the same shot over and over.  You can change the temp on the Incanto in the menu, to brew at a perfect 195 deg.   It also can brew through 12 grams of coffee, almost the same as the Jura.  It’s over 2 times smaller than the Jura.  It’s the only machine that you can adjust the pressure in the brewing chamber.  It will out steam the Jura and keep up with the best pro consumer machines on the market.  They also have a new ceramic head grinder. This is a good little machine.
Yes Slugline there will be water released in the drip tray after brewing.  Pressure relief.  Reduce the amount of water by adjusting the grind to a finer setting.  Do one click at a time, and then brew about 20 drinks before making another change.

I'm not sure if this has a problem storing shots too? I'll have to investigate that. I know a lot of things have been redesigned for this model. As far as I can tell, WS is the only dealer in the USA (at the moment) on this model and they've have only recently received this model as they are a big seller of Jura.

Cosmetically, it's built like a tank compared to the Jura F & S9 I compared it to in the store. I'm just not enjoying the water build-up in drip tray, but I'm starting to believe this is normal back pressure for all super autos?

I'm starting to get a nice espress from the machine thru experimentation after only a dozen attempts or so. I've found that if I steam a little milk first and then brew I get a hotter pour, etc.

Thanks, Jerry.

My grinder is currently set to the second smallest dot. That's the way it came from factory. I assume the smallest dot would represent the finest grind? It's hard to trust the manual. I've already found that it says to turn SBS one way in photos and another way in text ad descriptions?

I'm not sure what you meant by: it's over 2 times smaller?

Jerry, forgot to ask about adjusting brew pressure in chamber? I haven't seen anything on that yet? What setting do you recommend?
