To anyone who's using a Macap, which threaded-hole on the top of the unit did you use to secure the hopper on? I see three of them. I used the who where setting 1 is the finest and 9 is the most coarse. Does that really make a difference?
Hey Torps - no way you should be using the finest setting on the Macap to get a shot. Either your grinder is miscalibrated somehow or you're running into the limit set when you secure the hopper with the little peg. Finest setting makes sub-baby powder Turkish coffee dust, not sand. Try not securing the hopper at all. That way you have full range for settings. The hopper is plenty snug without being screwed down, and the peg limits the grind selection. Its the one piece of poorly thought out design on the unit, I think. When you remove the peg you should be able to turn the grind selection the entire way around. Not sure if everyone's numbers line up in the same place, but I sort of thought they did. With no beans in the grinder, turn the unit as fine as it will go (smaller number = finer grind), and then back it off about until the "6" is facing the front of the machine. That should give you a grind at least within reasonable range. If you really are needing to use the finest setting, get on the phone with Chris for recalibration.
For those who own an Anita or her HX cousins, do you steam milk while pulling the shot? Does this affect shot temp or quality? I am new at this. Are your hands so busy with the shot that you would not be able to steam anyway unless you had a second person.
My Anita comes on Tuesday. I still wonder why when you pay $1500 for a machine you have to temperature surf when temperature surfing is not in the manufacturers instructions? My first shot will be just as Chris from Chriscoffee does in the ad video and I'll see what happens. The whole point of an HX machine is to be able to froth and pull at any time so I'm thinking isn't surfing just a bit geekish? OMG this is a Geeks site so I gues I'd better. I'll do the comparison.
Incidentially I had first bought a Bricoletta and Chris talked me out of it implying it was outdated as there were no recent revies here. It was a close call but the Anita weighs 3lb more so I went with it. Pairing with a Vario.
Mike, you've responded to a thread started 7 years ago. There have been several changes to the Anita since then. I owned one for 4 years. Loved it, and Chris is an awesome vendor.
