i want to thank the responses that i got from the forum on my first post on the nespresso experiment i am doing. even though i haven't moved up at home to  high level equipment as of yet, i do know good expresso as a consumer. so today i received a shipment from nespresso and tried the ristretto. it's actually quite good and much better than the low end equipment i was doing at home and a lot of restuarants and coffee bars etc. but as i told the rep on the phone i am concerned about the cost and being locked in to only the nespresso product. again it's hard to believe capsules aren't being made by reputable coffee houses to use with various machines including nespresso or are they? i got a email from company in italy and they said they don't, so can anyone direct me to a company for this? thanks!!

Hello Glennz!

First of all, I'm not a Nespresso-Pro altough this system and the available blends are quite good, but regarding your question wether anybody else produces Nespresso-Cap's:

From a economical point of view I don't think that anybody else as Nescafe produces these cap's.

Some years ago several Espresso-Machine-producers and several larger roasters sat together and invented a system called E-S-E (don't ask me for what this abrevation stands) with the Cialde-tabs.
This system is much simpler than the Nespresso-Cap's (Cialde-Tabs are quite similiar to tea-bags) and nearly any Epresso-machine can be adapt to the system - in most cases you need only a special Portafilter or even only a own Basket which keeps the Cialde Tab in position.

Due to the simpler construction the system is less expensive, the uplift compared to whole beans is not worth mentioning...

So after the Roasters now fill their ground coffee already also in Cialde-Tabs I don't think, that they are interested in another Standard.....

Attached you can find a picture of the Cialde-Tab

Again -I'm neither a Cialde-Pro or a Nespresso-Pro, but I think my assumption sounds logical from a Roasters-point-of view....
(If there are any roasters out there, please tell me wether I'm right or not....)

Greetings from Austria
