Hi!
This is an espresso machine that has been used in a coffeehouse. The father of a friend wants to give it to me, in exchange for any coffeemachine that's easy to use. (Think an automatic will be best for him)
But I can't find "Grandebar" in the internet.
A coffeespecia, ist here in Vienna said, that maybe a company sold another machine under this name, like "Schärf" is selling "Conti-machines" with their name...
Does one of you know the "organs" of this machine? Do they look familiar to you, or similar to a special brand?
All I know is, that I can regulate the temperature, it has no watertank - I would have to plumb it, the black switch in the front is for turning on blue neon-light behind the name, and originally the front was made of rippled glass - but was exchanged with chrome.
The man said, that the tap beside the group just pours hot water, he knows nothing about getting steam. But maybe he just doesn't know how to handle it.
Or could it be a machine that has no pump, that only has the little pressure from the heated water? But no, it has to be leveld up to the group...and on the other side he said he had crema when he tried to use this machine - shouldn't that be a sign for higher pressure? Hmmm.
Iit's kept simple, as you can see.
How will I know if the machine has a pump, and which one (rotation/vibration)???
I hope this informations are useful and someone knows more than I do!
Thank you in advance.
Regards
Joey

...the inside from above...
(the pipes you see coming from the wall are not attatched with the machine on that side - as it looks in this picture. The are connected with a gardenhose which is pluged on on the group-side of the machine - see pic from that side)

...and the group. Unfortunately this picture is a bit blured, but maybe it still helps. BTW, I find the group to be very big in diameter. I didn't measure it, but I think it's much wider that 6cm...

In the meantime a specialist here in Vienna told me, that around the 50/60's water pressure was enhanced with pumps to a level of 7-8 bar(today most of the water comes from the mountains and has 3-4 bar pressure). In that time some manufacturers built espressomachines that worked with that pressure. That's the reason why this Grandebar has no pump, just a waterboiler. Today the pressure from the tap is not high enough, so the coffee is a mixture between a drip and an espresso.
I could plumb a pump inbetween the boiler and the group - but I don't really have the time for that. So I guess it's better to put it in a museum. (or maybe find a grind that suits the pressure?!? Hmmm)

Joey,

I read your posting about plumbing your machine.

There is a product called Hydraserver from hymore.

It can deliever Bottled water source under pressure from 40 to 70psi from this unit to espresso machine.

The unit is light weight and can be plumbed to multiple devices.

well...the so of the grandebar owner is the man to talk too.

before i saw that...i was remarking to myself how much the handle on the portafilter looked like a handle i saw on a picture of a Kees Speedster...and maybe some other Kees machine.

anyone else notice that?

why is this?

is it a country of origin thing?

It reminds me of a simplified E-61, and the handles are similar to the ones I saw on JimmyO/Espressobsessed's blog talking about their new E-61 legend....
