I'm looking for a cheap (and fairly good) espresso maker and grinder. I have absolutely no experience and have no clue what to look for, so i figured i'd ask you guys for some help.  What is a good but not overly expensive espresso maker for under 100$ and also a good grinder for under 70$? Right now i am thinking of getting thisEspresso Maker and Grinder but as i said i have no experience and i just chose those because they have fairly good reviews on amazon.

hi ! i just moved up to a la pavoni level machine but i have been using the krups "gusto" for a few years with no problems or breakdowns and it is easy and consistant pump machine without gimmicks and does produce good crema. i paid $69 at bed, bath and beyond on sale and this machine was including on one of the web pages off of coffee geek as a very exceptable entry level machine and it has proven to be so. As far as grinders i bought a bodum antiqua burr grinder $49 on sale at sur la table and i modified it a bit and that worked for the krups but i am not as happy with that as with the krups as i can't get it to gring fine enough for my new la pavoni machine. I hope this helps !

I've been able to use a $25 DeLonghi burr grinder from costco with good results. You need to file down a little plastic nub that limits how fine it will grind. If you get coffee at a coffee house, you can also have them grind it for you..

I have excellent results with my Krups Espremio (got it for 13.50 plus shipping new on eBay).  The only downside for it is that it only brews one shot at a time.  Other than that, it is great.  If you are just getting into espresso, it may be better to hold off on getting a grinder just yet.  The inexpensive ones aren't really suitable for espresso.  Just get it ground at the coffeehouse, and buy a little at a time (so it doesn't go stale).

If you are armed with info, go out and do some thrift store shopping or garage sale hopping. I scored beginner level equipment for less money than a 5lb bag of specialty coffee beans. I have 2 Saeco Vapores, one's an Estro. I just found a Saeco Model 480 grinder for $7.
The machines were $10 and $13 respectively. Replacement grouphead gaskets were $15 apiece incl. postage.
I found a Braun KM30 for $2.
I see Moka Pots, French Presses and drip brewers all the time. Nice ones. Im finding stainless accessories, vacuum bottles, demitasse cups, popcorn poppers used for coffee roasting, and travel mugs
all near perfect condition. This in a fairly small town in the Pacific NW. Coffee country. Someday I will find a
Rancilio machine, wait and see.
