Hi there -
The plusses and minuses of the Mazzer Mini are well documented on this board, but I still haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. As has been mentioned plenty of times before, the Mazzer is a commercial grinder - the doser chamber is hard to clean up after grinding (especially for someone like me who does one or two shots at a time), and my counter is a mess. I'm not worried about the counter as much, but I would like to find a solution for keeping my doser clean.
What are people doing? I've considered getting a dustbuster, I've considered removing the doser and just using a tumbler or something to catch the grinds. Any ideas?

Have you considered Andy's doser modification? I used standard parts instead of cutting PVC pipe and got it down to less than 0.1 grams left behind with a quick sweep of the exit chute. Let me know if you're interested and I'll post pictures. It's easier and faster to clean than my old Rocky DL (I can't say the same for the countertop).

Thanks Dan! That's exactly what I was looking for! I think I may have seen mention of Andy's mod, but I was never able to find more information. Any pictures or further instructions you might have to offer would be excellent. Looks like I have a project to look forward to in the near future.

I approach it a bit differently. I took off the guard where the grinds come out, and use a stainless steel measuring cup (1/3cup size works well for me). I flattened the front of the measuring cup a bit so that it fits better when held under the place where the grounds come out. So I essentially grind into the measuring cup, and the doser catches any of the grounds that miss the cup--not much. Then once or twice a week, I take the large cover off the bean hopper and turn it up-side-down, hold it under the doser and flip the lever on the doser a bunch of times to get ride of the grounds that went into the doser. This way I have minimal mess on the counter, and I'm not making any major modifications to the Mazzer. If I have a bunch of people over and want to use the doser as designed, then no problem. Rob

I don't want to modify my Mazzer.... to expensive a beauty to start adding Frankenstein bolts and plates etc.... So I do it the hard way with a brush similar to the modification shown in Dan's post and hit the doser a bunch of times sweeping out base of the doser with each dose... I need to get the safety guard off so I can clean the chute a little better... I got caught once while the blade was slowing down and bye bye brush... scariest moment with Mazzer was watching those bristles curl around inside of the blade....yikes....still gives me chills

Interesting -- so your doser mechanism is fully intact inside except for the finger guard? I didn't think to check to see if anything would fit in there to catch the grounds. I'll fool around with that idea first -- it definitely sounds easier than the mod posted earlier, although that idea is pretty cool too.

The stainless steel 1/3 measuring cup I use is nice, because its about the same diameter as the 58mm portafilter--so its very easy to transfer the grounds. Just turn the portafilter up-side-down onto the measuring cup, then invert the whole thing and tap a few times on the counter or a tamper pad. Rob
The 1/3 cup is a measuring cup that is wide (about 54mm wide) and shallow. It has a long handle and is very easily placed into the doser of the MM. Should I post a picture. Rob

I think I know what you mean, we've got a set of these, they are used for measuring flour etc. I might give them a try. The great thing is they are wide enough to allow you to get a paint brush (I use a 1/2" one) up the shoot to pull the rest of the grind down to minimise wastage and also allow me to experiment with different grinder settings.
