Posted Thu Jun 22, 2006, 1:22pm Subject: Gagia Baby won't prime
With my Giotto out of commission (see other thread), I got out my Gaggia Baby from the garage. It was well maintained for the year I used it. Bought new. RO water only. About one year of use and then into the (hot) garage covered in bubble wrap.
For some reason, the pump won't prime. Plenty of noise, but no suction whatsover. I have the steam valve open -- doesn't help at all. I tried blowing water through the plastic tube into the pump, but it wouldn't go.
Next I thought perhaps I was missing a plastic tube, and that I was trying to prime using the overpressure tube. (My Giotto has two tubes, for example.) I went to Wholelatte's site and their picture/movie shows one tube, over on the left. Apparently the overpressure tube is just a nub hidden over on the right in a recessed hole.
I'm out of ideas. Can't figure it out. Help humbly requested. It's been a bad day. First the Giotto. Now the Baby. Nothing going my way.
