I'm planning on buying a new machine and from reading the reviews I got the impression that the Rancilio Silvia should be a good machine in my price range (about $400-600 to machine and $200-300 grinder) However there is one constrain I need to meet which is making sure my wife would be able to use the machine so a pod adapter is a must
Does a pod adapter exists for the Rancilio Silvia ? If so how does it compares with Ascaso/Francis pod system ?

If you click on the Photo Gallery, you will see the parts that are sold separately. You would need to contact a dealer who currently sell the pod-adaptable Silvia to see if they have the extra kit. I also suggest confirming that the boiler replacement is in stock, as well. Looking at the pictures from another distributor outside the USA, the boiler has also changed - which means if the heating element is damaged, the entire boiler needs to be replaced.

1stline,
Does the pod capable Silvia differ from a "normal" Silvia ? is this a special model, or simply a newer version ? should it be better or worse than the old Silvia ?

I might be missing something, but if you want pods for your wife and real espresso for yourself you might be in trouble ... the pod adaptor seems to fit a lower shower screen/dispersion block in ... permanently. Ie. no pod and normal coffee at the same time. I'm quite happy to be corrected on this, though!

Can someone explain just what the esensual difference between a pod machine or adapter is?
A while ago on a cruise only soluble coffee was available. At a port of call I bought some espresso pods to use for "coffee bags". While not equal to my home roast they sure beat the instant crud.
When I returned home I had some pods left. I put a couple of them into the LM double basket in the standard porta-filter in my Silvia. The result was not equal to my home roast but it was as good as I would expect for some stale pods.
If for some reason I have to use pods in the future what possible improvment can some made to purpose pod adapter give me?
