I am looking at a Rancilio single group "commercial" level machine that is identified as the "L6"  I have searched the web and I see nothing about it on the "parts" or manufacturers sites.  The manufacturers sites are usually exclusively limited to the "current" models and have pathetic support for older models.   Anyway, does a Rancilio "L" series or the model L6 in particular ring any bells for anybody.  Remember, it is that time of year for those "bells to be ringing" (Ha Ha - just couldn't help myself).  I do not mind purchasing an old unit that needs to be refurbished.  In fact I have got a very sweet Bezzera two head commercial unit that is in the process of being reassembled.   All stainless steels with the simplest of lines that reminds of one I received espresso (Cafe con leche in particular) on a nearly daily basis in Seville Spain in 1982.  Ahh those were the days, trying to relive my youth.  Thanks in advance!

AS YOU CAN SEE THE MACHINE IS AN L6 NOT AN L9.  PROBABLY there NEVER WAS AN L9 EXCEPT IN MY MIND.  THERE IS A BIT OF INFO ON THE L6 BUT NOT MUCH.  YEARS IT WAS IN PRODUCTION WOULD BE HELPFUL. ANY OTHER INSIGHT ON THIS TYPE OF MACHINE WOULD BE HELPFUL. SUCH AS QUALITY OF THE ESPRESSO PRODUCED.

i AM BASICALLY HOOKED ON ESPRESSO AND HAVE BEEN SINCE TH EARLY 1980'S.  i CONSIDER MYSELF AS KNOWNING ENOUGH TO BE DANGEROUS (MOSTLY TO MYSELF AND MY WALLET).  I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED A COMMERCIAL GRADE MAHCINE IN PARTICULAR THE TWO GROUP BECAUSE THEY WERE MY FIRST AND BEST EXPERIENCE WITH ESPRESSO (NOTE SPAIN ABOVE).  tHE BEZZEREA i GOT FITS THE BILL.  jUST NEED TO HAVE MY MECHANICAL ENGINEER FRIEND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AND FOR ME TO GET THE PLUMBING AND ELECTRIC (220V) IN AND I'LL BE GOOD TO GO.

pROBABLY THE CLASSIC CASE OF BUYING THE BMW (COMMERCIAL GRADE TWO GROUP) WHEN THE HYUNDAI (GAGGIA CLASSIC OR COMPARABLE) WOULD DO.  bUT WHAT THE HEY YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE.

bUT i FIND THE RANCILIO L6 LOOKING QUITE RIGHT (IF THE PRICE AND SHIPPING ARE NOT OVER THE TOP).  sTILL REQUIRES THE PLUMBING BUT i AM OKAY WITH THAT.  iT HAS THE SAME SIMPLE LINES THAT I FIND QUITE ATTRACTIVE IN THE BEZZERA.

The "L" series were one group machines that predated the current offerings, such as the S27.

  • L4 - Pourover vibe, predecessor to S24
  • L6 - Rotary Semi-auto, predecessor to S26
  • L7 - Rotary auto, predecessor to S27

I have an L7, and there is a date of "August, 1988" stamped on the inside of the machine on the back of a white metal panel behind the sight glass.  From some searches I did on Google, I got the impression that this was towards the end of the L-series production run.

Many of the parts are interchangeable or "interchangeable with a bit of effort" with parts for the S2x series machines.  The electronics box, no doubt, is an exception to this.

for part of older machines try coffeeparts.com or rincambi but most parts are interchangable with the s series

Try this place: http://www.espressotec.com/  I was there last night picking up a Rocky grinder and he has all sorts of rebuilt and recycled equipment.  Lots of Rancilio stuff.  It isn't listed on the site but give him a call. - carl
