Craig,

Thanks for the great photo's (as always).  I just took my Rocky apart for a good leaning and man it was filthy!  Funny thing is that I have only used it four or five times!  I mean there were grounds under the burrs even.  Man, it was good too see what is really there.  Luckily it all brushed clean and now the Rocky is cleaner then the day I bought it.  With a regular brushing I can't see the need for any rice or grinder cleaner pellets, but time may change that!

On a side note my tools of the trade are a screwdriver, adjustable wrench, metal pick (also called a scribe, available from any hardware store or even Wal-mart I believe), paintbrush (although cheap toothbrush would work too) and the best thing of all, a set of aquarium cleaning brushes (Wal-mart for around $2)!  The tubular shaped brushes are great for cleaning the chute (without removing it) and for getting into the screw holes on the burrs.

I hope to write up a how-to on how I do it in my spare time.  I'll be sure to share, thanks again Craig!

Hi All,

Wanted you let you all know that I found a Click Clack (0.7L size, model 2010) at my local Bed Bath and Beyond.

They also are now stocking the Bodum Yohki jars with SS lid.

Both of these were NOT at BB&B a week ago!  Funny, their buyers must be reading CoffeeGeek!

Hm.  The Click Clack I got was the one that you guys recommended above, but it doesn't fit my Rocky.  The hopper on mine is slightly too big, so I get no seal, and thus no flushing.  I guess I could try and do some kinda tape mod...  Hm, maybe I'll just return it and get those Bodum Pavina espresso glasses...

Jon, interesting stuff:  i have some random comments that might be helpful:

  1. i bought one of these containers/lids about 2 months ago from BBB (also bay area) and it fit tighly and worked like a charm.  i decided to by a "back up" this weekend (and just use itas a container for something else in the meantime) and i found what you did: it's too loose on my Rocky!  BUT...although it is loose, in certain ways, it is a more convenient plunger, ie, for my case, it still works.  i don't have to depress the buttons but just plunge it up and down and i dare say it's as effective as my tight lid.  so give i a try.

  2. of course, i don't store beans in my hopper so a loose lid isn't as big a deal.

  3. i too got one of those Yohki containers because i needed a small sugar container for my guests that like sugar with their coffee (i drink mine black, and was usually embarrased to pull out my giant sugar container (for baking which holds 10 lbs) whenever someone wanted sugar for their tea or coffee)...the problem is, most people get confusd on the lid direction at first!

Mine is so loose that it doesn't flush no matter what I do...  Are both the ones you bought model # 2010?

Jon, sorry to hear yours is so loose that i doesn't flush...my second one is quite loose (ie, it moves without squeezing the sides, but a quick pump (motion) up and down flushes out probably a 1/2T of grounds after i'm done grinding.

yes, both of my models are 2010, but it seems there is huge variation...granted, i could have somehow gotten two different stocks since i bought my containers 2 months apart.

i'd recommend taking off your hopper and bringing to BBB to see if you can find a better lid.  a hassle, but hopefully you can find a decent one that way.

[i'm actually still unsure if i'll exchange my "loose" one as it does work and is easier to use...i fortunately go by BBB every couple of weeks to buy coffee from Barefoot Roasters since they are in the same shopping center -- i bought both of mine from BBB in Santa Clara (on Stevens Creek Blvd) in case you're curious)

An alternative that I've been using is a small silicone disk that slips inside Rocky's hopper, it sits on the top of the sloped/funnel section (I've removed the finger guard). I push the flexible center in and out comes the grinds. It's quick, easy and works well.

The disk is the "Mini Cool Tool Set of Two" by Le Creuset. I picked them up at my local Kitchen specialty store but they are available online - for example http://tinyurl.com/2s5lwx

They cost under $10 and the fit is not an issue but you do have to remove the finger guard.

If I can get to it I will post pictures if anyone is interested.
