I like to make a good cup every morning before work. I am the only one who drinks coffee in the house. While I occassionally use my 4-cup to serve a guest, for the most part, I'm making one tall travel mug and that's it.

Can someone recommend a good quality grind/brew machine -- one that stands up to time, one that makes a good solid strong cup, but also one with a small footprint. I've got a small kitchen with little space and certainly don't need a 10-cup. My current 4-cup Melitta is terrific, but it lacks the built-in grinder.

Advice is appreciated.

You've probably not received replies because there are already several threads requesting info about the best brewer.  However, you indicate you want one that doesn't brew 10 cups.  Instead you want a 4 cupper with a grinder included.  I don't even know if such an animal exists.  If more than one does (meaning you need to decide between two), most people here don't like the built in grinder option, since the grinders range from bad to ok.  So I suspect that the best advice you'd get from people here is to invest in a good grinder, a Melitta pourover & perhaps an electric kettle.   Good luck with your search!

I appreciate your note. I did read several posts for larger coffee makers/grinders and so the "small" (4-cup) variety was the nature of my post. That said, if the answer is they're all pretty lousy anyway, maybe I'll invest in the separate system.
