Subject: USA vs. Europe- voltage

Hello,
I want to buy a good espresso machine to use at home, but I need one that will also work in Europe- I am moving there in fall. Can you please write here your machine's voltage input along with the brand and model? I need a machine that will operate on  220 volts and 50 Hz. Does anybody here have any experience with moving to Europe and bringing your machine with?

Thanks a lot!

Hi
There are different 220 plugs depending on where you go in Europe.  Most plugs are of the 2 pin but there are offset 3 pin and sideways blades.  Voltage is still the same and you can get adapters for most plugs.  The most common is the 2 pin.  You can get adapters for in the US also and the difference in cycles won't hurt the machine that we have found.

There is a big difference in wiring when designing for 110v or 220v, and electrical motors behave differently at 50Hz then at 60Hz

My guess is that the best option will be a manual lever machine used with a knock-down transformer. No motors to deal with, and the heating element won't care at all about the frequency difference. I believe it would still be a good idea to use a transformer to change the voltage from 220v to 110v
