Subject: Livia 90 normal pressure during operation???

I new to a used Livia 90 auto and it my first machine with a pressure gauge. I notice that during warmup, it gets into the green region. After a while it drops to .9 bar or the line between the blue and green region. Then I think the heating comes on and the pressure shoots up to the green. Is this simply a function of thermodynamics P V/T??? Is this normal operation.?

Oh, yeh I got a deal on two of them, one is going to a guy who works with a bunch of people from Italy. Should drive them insane!!!

Thanks

Hi CaffeCaffe,

Congrats on the Livia!  I really like mine and wish you the best of luck with it.  What you're describing sounds like normal procedure to me, where the boiler cycles on and off at the same intervals :)  Having the boiler turn back on at .9 seems is pretty standard.  You can also change this by turning a little screw on your pstat.  Good directions for this procedure are in the HB FAQ.

Best,
p

Here's the main link:

Here's the guide to adjusting your pstat:
Notice the important note: IMPORTANT: Unplug the machine when making this adjustment. Turning it off at the switch isn't enough -- unplug it.

Here's a great guide that also deserves mention:

Thanks P. MyPsat was set a bit low so I bumped it up an eighth of a turn.

I've gone throught a lot of coffee trying to adjust amount, grind and tamp. With all cases I'm getting good taste with varying amounts of crema.
