I just upgraded from Pasquini Livietta to ECM Cellini. The first thing I noticed is that the portafilter takes less grinds for a double shot. Also, my grind setting had to be significantly finer. The pump on the Cellini can plow through practically everything, so small variances in my tamp pressure do not affect the final result as they used to. yay!
However, the espresso I'm getting so far is lower on crema and tastes worse than what I got from my Livietta. The Livietta had a 53mm portafilter (Cellini has 58mm), and so the espresso was distributed more vertically than horizontally. It was like a thin column. I'm not sure if this is the reason, but I definately got thick, good espresso from the Livietta. The exact same beans give me different results on the Cellini.
I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong because the Cellini is a first-class machine. Has anyone had the same experience?
