Posted Wed Jul 23, 2008, 11:19pm Subject: pairing a rocky with a breville ikon espresso machine? is that crazy?
i have the breville ikon grinder and espresso combo. with unpressurized filter
with fresh grind beans.. the espresso is pulling nicely i think... 25 sec ish shot for 2-2.5oz... brown crema with the "guiness" effect while brewing...
a little inconsistent... the crema looks not bad (could be better.. but for a low end machine. i thought they are decent) .. the taste is decent but not great .. (but only when i use fresh beans)
a part of me keep thinking what it would be like if i only had higher end machine...
i MAYBE upgrading sooner or later... so i wonder.. if i begin to upgrade the grinder now... would it make the breville produce much better shots??
is pairing the rocky with an ikon a stupid idea?? afterall. the grinder is MORE expensive than the espresso machine itself!!!
is rocky going to give me much better espresso than the breville grinder??? (well.. that's a stupid question.. as the answer better be yes when it is that much more $$, but i guess the question is.. keeping all other constant .. is just changing the grinder to rocky going to get me satisfied longer?)
yeah. Before I upgraded my machine to an expobar office pulser, I was running my mazzer mini with a similar machine to yours - a sunbeam cafe crema with an unpressurised basket.
the mazzer killed the sunbeam - it was leaking from everywhere by the time I upgraded.
