hey.

my left steam wand seems to kind of drip slightly after i use it. it drips and you can hear a slight amount of air/steam flow very very little but it seems like it isn't sealing properly. but it stops after a few seconds. doesnt seem to be a problem .... yet.

anyone know how to fix this? i assume taking it apart carefully and putting it back together may fix it. i just wonder if i need to fully cool off the machine before i do this. i guess the gasket could be failing or getting worn. maybe i can use the one from the other wand that never gets used.

maybe it is a normal behavior?

thanks for your time.

jon

Exactly the same thing has started happening recently on my Elektra Semiautomatica. Scale buildup? Bad gasket? Something else? I guess I'll have to take it apart and see what I can see.

I had a case with a coffee shop I work with where one steam wand was leaking slowly after the first month on a new GB5.  I do not know what the configuration of the valve is in the Elektra, so I can not say if it is the same thing or not.  But on this particular GB5, the problem was completely fixed by replacing the seat gasket.  It is unusual for this to happen on a new machine, and was due to a manufacturing malformation of the gasket.  Your machine may simply be used enough to need a valve re-build.   You can use the shut off valve on the steam line to the valve to isolate that valve for repair without shutting off the machine.

By the way, when training Baristas I always ask which side of the machine is their favorite, and almost 100 percent of the time they do have a favorite.  I always advise that they change it up during the day to avoid wearing down the gaskets and valves (both steam and solenoid) on one side as well as the calcification that occurs in the dormant side.  It is analogous to driving around with your car pulling hard to one side and never getting the alignment fixed.   Besides, it would be a lot less work for you to start using the other side than to transplant the gaskets from the other side.

Good luck with the repair
