I will try to make the long story short, but here goes. After I used a friend of mine's Silvia for a while, I had to have one for myself, so I went on ebay and got myself a Silvia with a 2006 build date that the guys said was in "immaculate condition". I get the thing out of the box and excitedly set it up, and get nothing when I try to prime it. No water comes out, no water moves into the lines. So I whip out the manual (which was included) and read the instructions on first use. Fill with water, open steam valve, turn on the brew button and the power button for 30 seconds, until water comes out. I tried it again, and I tried it using the hot water button instead of the brew button. Same result, no water moving into the lines. I pull the case open, and snapped some pictures (see below), I think it is the pump that is gone, but I wanted to see if anyone else had another idea, or advice. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the quick reply, I actually tried both the gravity assisted priming and the pressure priming (though, not all that much pressure). I had a motorcycle fuel pump that was giving me some trouble a while back and that fixed it right up, so I figured why not an espresso water pump, no such luck.

No need to be sorry, I appreciate your help. Yes, it buzzes and vibrates like it is trying it's best, but it doesn't move any water at all. I couldn't actually figure out how to get the pump open. There are two screws on the side holding the outlet in place, but when I take them off it doesn't seem to come apart. I will pull it apart again tonight when I get back to the machine and see what happens. Thanks for the link.

That was the magic. I pulled it apart and it worked. The springs were slightly rusted, so I am ordering a new pump anyway, but it was nice to get dirty and get it going. Thanks for the advice.

Excellent! {;-D
You may not have to buy a new one. My Silvia's original Ulka vibe pump is from (May 2001 8 years 3 months old) & works like the very first day.
Try a water output test, called a water debit test. Without a portafilter attached, use a cooking Pyrex measuring cup & run the pump for 10 seconds. The collected sample should be no less than 90ml to approximately 120 - 125ml. If it's within those parameters, it's fine & you have nothing to worry about., but I can understand you wanting to replace it in case of possible future problems down the road.
