Hi, I just inherited a Zappia PARADISO Model A expresson machine and have no idea how to operate it. I put water in the chamber and plugged it in and it does heat up rapidly so it apparently works. It has a perculator basket where the coffee obviously goes. There is a wand where the steam/coffee probably come out, and a screw down clamp that releases pressure and allows opening the machine. I just don't know how to operate it. Here's a link to a very similar machine: Click Here If anyone can give me some basic instruction on this I would very much appreciate it. I'm used to dealing with a Starbucks Barrista so this has me stumped. Thanks, James Eden Utah

Well, I think I'm going to try this thing out in the morning. The water chamber holds about 14 oz of water, if I fill it up to right below the bottom of the basket. I ran seveal batches of water through the machine. It takes about 2 minutes from the time I plug it in until water starts coming out of the wand. The machine empties all the water in about 30 seconds, or maybe less. I'm not sure, but there doesn't seem to be a way to foam milk for lattes. That's what was confusing me. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I mean I can always foam milk with the Barista and use this machine to provide the coffee. Please tell me if I'm missing something here. Thanks, James

Well, I tried out the machine this morning with excellent results. This thing made a very strong cup of espresso, compared to my Starbucks Barista using the same amount of coffee. I still don't know if this machine can be used to steam milk. I kind of doubt it. I just used the barista for the foam and Paradiso for the espresso. I thought it was pretty good, and when I asked my wife she thought it was better than when using the barista. I still need to know more details about how to clean it and stuff like that. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, James

Thanks for the reply. I kind of figured that. So what do most foks with a pot like this do for steamed milk/foam? Are there stand alone steamers out there? Do you just heat the milk up in a sauce pan? Also, if anyone has one of these, can you tell me if there is any speacial methods for cleaning the lid/filter? I don't see a way to take it apart. I did find a patent online for a similar pot and the lid there had a screw in the middle of it to dissasymble the filter for cleaning. This one doesn't seem to be like that. I've just tried to force water backards through the steam wand without much success. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks, James, Eden Utah

It's not a steam wand. if it were, you could froth milk with it. That said, since I do not own such a machine, it's hard for me to tell you how to clean it.

I seem to be missing a part from the coffe pot. The larger washer at the bottom center in this picture did not come with the pot. Does anyone know what it is used for? We got this pot when my father-in-law passed away, so I'm not sure if there are any other accessories still stored away in his kitchen. Thanks, James

Just an update, this morning while making coffee, I happend to touch both the Zappia and my Barista at the same time and got a little trickle of a shock. It seems like there must be a faulty connection on the Zappia. The barista uses a grounded plug and the zappia doesn't. I don't know what the CFI didn't kick off, but it didn't. So far, other than that I really like this machine. James

I got my meter out this evening to see if there was an internal short in the pot. I measured 225 Ohms from contact to contact going into the base of the pot. There was infinite resistance from each post to the case of the pot. So far so good. I checked the cord. No shorts from plug to plug. I then plugged the pot in and measured a solid 47 - 52 Volts from the external case of the coffee pot over to the case of the Barista, even when the Barista is off. All I can figure is that the voltage must be induced onto the external case by the internal wrapping around the water chamber. I'm sure a grounded plug would solve this problem. Has anyone had experience with a situation like this? Any advice on how to proceed? I just have to remember not to touch both pots at one time. Thanks, James
