I have a francis francis x1 from around 2002. It has run pretty well over the years. (The thermometer has been problematic). Lately the machine has been running too hot. When I turn on the coffee pump the machine spits steam through the basket, and if I turn the steaming knob the thing is ready to steam milk w/o ever tuning on the steamer switch. I opened the machine and noticed a small white screw on a module on the control board marked temp. Can the temperature be adjusted, or do I just have to replace the whole control board? I appreciate any feedback on this issue. Thanks.

That screw does adjust the brew temp. But the real question would be why is the machine coming up to steam temp while set for brewing? My suggestion would be to check that the thermal couple is still well seated in the thermal grease in the well located on top of the boiler. If the thermal couple is not properly installed the temp control will raise the temp to max- steaming temp. The thermocouple requires good thermal contact with the boiler to regulate the brew temp. Could be over time- 7 years- that things has moved just enough to cause this problem. If that does not change anything the next suspect would be the temp control board. If it were going bad it would generally drift in its control of the brew temp or fail completely. At this point you could try adjusting the screw but it would probably just be a temporary fix. But then again over 7 years it might have moved. Good luck

I've bought a X1 but mine doesn't have the same "motherboard" the older has, so no screws to turn. I've followed the tutorial at Click Here (www.coffee-channel.com) and then I've found out that mine is different. Anyone know how to solve the problem on the new x1 model?
