I'm pretty sure the PID offset works the other way -- i.e. the water in the pressurised boiler is 18 degrees above what the display shows, to take into account cooling as it goes to the group head. Flash boiling below 212F with the offset just indicates the offset is a little high.

Sorry I haven't posted those photos yet. I had the camera set up, but I'd also adjusted the PID down to 196, and the results were interesting enough that I ended up experimenting with the machine instead of taking photos. There is definitely a marked decrease in bitterness in the cup. I think the PID offset may be a little high, based on the flash boiling experiment. If I want to be anal about it instead of just going by taste alone, what is the cheapest good way to check the temperature at the group head?
I'm still finding that I end up pulling 2oz of bubbly crema in 25-30 seconds, which settles out to a significantly smaller volume of liquid and denser crema. As expected, the effect is increased with coffee freshness, but it still happens with two week old coffee I'd consider too stale to drink. I did just spend a ridiculously frustrating evening going through a pound of SM Donkey Blend that seemed to be stale or SOMETHING. Bad striping even for decaf, blonding after 10 seconds, no cone formation, terrible flavour and blonde crema -- but I did end up with a reasonable volume of liquid.
If I do want to play with the pump pressure to see if it helps, is this typically done with the machine turned on, modifying it a little a time? I read the coffeetime article on adjusting rotary pump pressure, but it wasn't clear on this point.
I am the happy owner of the Duetto II. I just had it for about two weeks. I am really enjoying the machine but I find it challenging to steam milk, quite different from my previous Silvia. The other day I noticed that when the power to the Duetto is turned off, the steam boiler light has a fainth glow (about 50 %). When I turn the machine on the light turns off and only comes on when the heating element is on. Does anyone know what might be the cause?
Happy new Duetto II owner here too. I have also had some issues with steaming milk. Not quite as powerfull as my PID Silvia but getting used to it. I have it set to 1.5Bar and it takes about 1.5 to 2 minutes to steam 10 oz milk. I was not getting good microfoam with the two hole tip. I then plugged one hole and it is better but takes longer still. I will look inot the Expobar tip.
Great machine and really enjoying it. It is big though!

I find it much more powerful than my (PID-ed) slivia...I think steam temp on the silvia was set around 280? Whatever the default setting on the Auber PID is...
I haven't timed the DII, but on my Silvia, I could barely steam 10 oz of milk before it ran out of steam.
The reports here claim ~12oz of water were steamed in 75 seconds with Pstat at about 1.3 bar Click Here (www.home-barista.com)
Tonight I tried another two-hole tip that came with it. I think it is an Isomac tip and it has larger diameter holes. It made a huge difference. Much faster, probably about 35 seconds for 10 oz. Decent microfoam. I will use the stock tip for small quantities and the Isomac for larger volumes.
I have a problem with temperature rise on my Duetto and hope someone can help :-). Lately I have notised that during the last half of my 25 sec shot of espresso the temperature is climbing rapidly. For example if I have a set temperature on the brew boiler of 94C and the stream boiler on, the temperature is rising from about 94C at around 12 seconds into the shot and end up at around 98-99C at the end of the shot. The light indicating the heater element is on is flashing frequently during this period. I have read the article on Coffetime Wiki about the Duetto PID settings by Mole. I usually turn on the steam boiler for a session so I followed Mole's suggestion about setting the PID controller to 1.4/0.01 and 4.4. This was done almost a year ago and has worked well, but lately I have got this large temperature rise at the end of the shot. Do anyone have any suggestion of what can be wrong or how to fix the problem.
