Yep, just unlucky....I've seen this maybe 3 or 4 times in all the machines sold globally. Glad we could repace it so quickly for you.

Cheers, Phil

That's good news that I have taken care of two of them. And just so you know, the service in Canada was quick with no fuss. very impressive.

The funny thing is that message shows up and you can't shut the machine down unless you unplug it. plug it back in, fire it up and we're back to great shots. is there an explanation?

j

Looking forward to WBC news!!

I don't remember who posted that you can crack open the hot water valve to lower the pressure but they didn't mention that by doing that if you use your volume buttons that it messes that up.  you do get a very nice ristretto but figured it was good to mention that if you want to pull a normal shot you should use the manual button.  if this is mentioned somewhere sorry for the repeat

hi all.  thanks for all the help so far.  just wondering if anyone has the same issue that i'm having.  when i make an americano and use the water from the hot water dispenser on the bdb, it tastes really off.  the water by itself tastes terrible, very 'chemical.' everything else is fine. what do you think?

First reaction is to ask obvious questions, like "did you flush the machine with as much water as recommended in the startup instructions?"

I am not a fan of Americanos, and haven't tasted the water from my dispenser. But what you're describing definitely sounds like there's something in the brew boiler that shouldn't be there. And it's probably affecting the taste of your coffee as well, since the hot water tap on the BDB pulls from the brew boiler, not the steam boiler.

Maybe Phil could put together a group purchase option since there seems to be so many of us here chomping at the bit to get "naked"?? Me included.

i did flush the machine as recommended.  i was just curious if anyone tried the water straight up.  it just tastes a bit 'plastic'.  I've only had the machine for a few days, so maybe it does wash through with some time

Well, after posting earlier, I drained some water from the tap into a cup and let it cool. It tasted like water. But I've had my machine for a couple of months now.

I'd empty and rinse the reservoir, then run ten-twelve shots' worth through the water tap. There's a lot of plastic in the machine. The high-pressure lines look like PTFE, but the low-pressure lines look like PVC. There are grades of PVC that aren't supposed to shed plasticizers, and I'd like to believe Breville spec'd those in the design. Then again, you'd think refrigerator makers would, too, but the automatic icemaker in mine made plastic-tasting ice for months.

Thanks for checking it out, Stuart.  I think you're right about that.  I'll give it some time and see if it improves. Everything else is great with it, so not the worst thing ever

as fast as the last batch sold out at full asking price, I don't see why Breville would have any motivation for that at all.  in fact, if I were calling the shots over there, I'd consider a hefty price increase due to the heavy demand.  I bet they'd sell out the next run as fast as the first, at $149.99.

Hey there, let's not give them any crazy ideas.  I think $60 is a fair price.  $80 is still reasonable although a bit on the high side IMO.  $150 would be outright price gouging.  IMO, selling these very low volume naked portafilters, is more for "fan service" for coffee enthusiasts, than maximizing profits.
