Just off the top of my head, for home use Starbucks has a nice one for around $20.00. (You can scrub off the Starbucks logo if you don'tlike it.) There are some other companies that have nice ones as well. Wholelattelove has them for $35-40. 1st-line has them for $30-53. Take your pick. Or, if you decide to build one, as you construct it, take pictures and show us how to do it.

I got mine from Espresso Parts NorthWest, this one is the one, only 17 bucks, no logos. It comfortably holds 4-6 pucks, even more if you give it a jiggle.

Hmmm. You could try 2fCoffee in Sweden, (no prices listed on their site) or perhaps this one from http://www.temperato.no/, which lists at NOK $350, actually 282 NOK, or about 40 to 50 USD. The site is all in Norwegian, so from here click on "Espressotilbehør: (etc)" and then click on "Dunkebokser" to see all they carry.

Well the one that I have is a standard stainless steel commercial tray or dish, i'm not sure what you call them it is about 6"x6"x3", it has a 1/2" stainless steel bolt that runs through it. On the bolt is a piece of what looks like a radiator hose for protection. the containter has a lip for counter mounting, but you can make a wodden box that it could sit on, just a square box, and the lip will sit on it. You will have to notch out for the bolt heads. It works great.
Here is a link to a visual of it it would be a piece of cake to build.
one big advantage is that you can always run it through the dishwasher to really get it clean. Remembe when drilling Stainless to go very slow as the bits heat up fast. A restuarant supply house would have the contaner.

Caviat, the one I made is not stainless, but, is awsomely functional.
From Boeing surplus, got a drawer from a kiosk that is used to keep fasteners in at manufacturing businesses. We call them "roto bins" here. You get a tray for a roto bin. They are usually rectangular of the appropriate size for a knock box and the bottom has rounded corners for excellent cleanability. Plus they are usually painted grey with an very durable finish. Think of what they are used for for a minute. They need to stand up to being filled up with hard metal fasteners daily for years on end.
Drill a 3/8ths inch hole in opposite sides of the tray (the shortest width) and insert a 3/8ths inch shoulder bolt. Secure in place with a self locking nut.
Additional do dad:
I took a strip of 1 inch brass strap (10 inches), drilled a 3/8ths inch hole in one end and attached it to the shoulder bolt, then bent it away from the tray. Hey, an ergonomic handle! BE SURE TO PUT A PIECE OF AUTOMOTIVE HEATER HOSE OVER THE BOLT TO PROTECT THE PORTA FILTER. You could even use a piece of garden hose.

I made mine from a bread loaf pan and a long bolt and nut. Covered the bolt shaft with a piece of rubber tubing, slit up the side for easy on/off when cleaning. Maybe $3 in supplies and a few minutes of time.

I just built a knock device. I can't properly call it a box.
I found an old soup can which loosly fix the opening of my garbage disposal. I removed the bottom of the can with the can opener. The top was allready gone as it was an old can. I drilled two 10 mm holes 180 degrees apart just under the rim leaving the rim intact for strength. I cut a section of a 10 mm steel rod and brazed it into the holes. I then liberally coated the whole thing inside and out and espessially the rod with ABS pipe cement.
I insert my knock device into the drain opening and knock the filter on the rod. Then with the spray hose I rinse the grounds down the drain.
